WHY SHE STEALS YOUR JB: MAKEUP REMOVAL
September 20, 2017 by Jack
As you probably already know, Jack Black is the number one skincare brand* for men—we're pretty proud of that here. So you may be wondering why your favorite products keep winding up on her side of the bathroom — and seem to disappear twice as fast. Well, I’m here to solve that mystery for you.
As a woman working at Jack Black, my girlfriends often ask me which products they should try when no one's looking. To which I respond, "all of them." Of course, there's that person with the added—we'll call it smarts—who brings up Beard Oil. (The blend of natural oils and vitamins are great for your hair, but I’m getting sidetracked.)
So what's the difference between most products for men and women? Think pumpkin spice, white lilac, sweet rose—the list goes on. For me, it's all in the fragrance. A lot of women prefer neutral or fragrance-free options because of the way fragrant products can clash with their perfumes, and some fragrances can irritate the skin. Our products derive fragrance from botanical oils and extracts, rendering a majority of the scents pretty unisex when you think about it.
That said, women love products that work. I will be the first to admit that I shave my legs with Beard Lube® and always keep Turbo Wash® on hand—and let’s not go into my Black Tea & Blackberry Lip Balm addiction. But the thing that has surprised me the most about Jack Black products is their efficacy when it comes to makeup removal. I know—how does a men's brand even do that?
While guys (and plenty of girls, I'm sure) use our All-Over Wipes for Face & Body after a workout or for a quick fix in the middle of the day, I like to use the textured side to help remove foundation on my nose, cheeks, and forehead. I use the smooth side on my eye makeup, holding the wipe in place for a few seconds before rubbing it off. Giving it a minute helps to break down stubborn eye makeup like mascara and gel eyeliners. My favorite part: the formula has nourishing extracts like Calendula and Chamomile with antibacterial properties to help clear bacteria in pores that can lead to breakouts. So it’s safe to say the best way to get rid of all-day makeup is with an All-Over Wipe, amirite? (Feel free to write my dad for my tragic attempt at a joke—he won't be proud.)
Because makeup—especially liquid foundation—can clog pores, I like to use Deep Dive® Glycolic Facial Cleanser. Count me among the unfortunate to be born with (super) oily skin, so I love the way the formula works to cleanse pores and remove oil and blackheads without drying my skin out. The Kaolin Clay’s natural absorbency help draw out oily buildup while volcanic ash and oatmeal exfoliate for softer, smoother skin.
On the days I use Deep Dive® as a mask, I cleanse with Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser because its formula is perfect for washing around my eyes. In the past, I would use kids' tear-free shampoo to wash my eye makeup off since I knew it wouldn't burn my eyes. The Pure Clean formula is just as gentle. This is not to say you should try opening your eyes when you are washing your face, but it is definitely easier on the eyes than other cleansers. The dual-purpose cleanser and toner includes Witch Hazel, a natural astringent, to help dissolve buildup in pores.
So if you are a guy, do her a favor. If you're a girl, do yourself a favor. Stock up on some serious skincare.
