TIPS FOR A SHINE-FREE SUMMER
July 13, 2016 by Jack
The same scorching heat and stifling humidity that can make the prospect of a shower seem like a cruel joke are also responsible for your face’s oil production being turned up to 11. Having oily skin during the summer months can be like living in a volatile climate—ebbs and flows alternating between one extreme and another. The face we see in the mirror each morning becomes a greasy ghost of morning’s past by lunchtime. By the end of the day, it looks like someone gave us a swirly in a tub of chicken grease. Sound familiar?
The keys to treating oily skin in the summertime and minimizing its effects on your skin are to develop a routine and stick to it. We’ve put together the ideal summertime regimen for guys with oily skin, coupled with explanations for why that suggestion is effective. Three steps, guys.
1) Exfoliate. Then exfoliate some more. We recommend washing twice a day (after you wake up and before you go to bed) with our Deep Dive® Glycolic Facial Cleanser, which is made for men with normal to oily skin. Its formula includes a smart balance of vitamins, plant extracts, minerals, and powerful exfoliants to effectively remove dirt and oil without completely stripping your skin of needed moisture. Many cleansers do exactly that, and while your face may feel super clean for a moment, your skin’s lack of moisture causes your body to produce more and more of the very oils you were trying to remove.
Once a week, use a powerful exfoliant such as our Power Peel Multi-Acid Resurfacing Pads before bed to remove dead skin cells and buildup in one step. A blend of alpha and beta hydroxy acids provides the optimal level of exfoliation, working on both the top layer of skin and lower levels to promote advanced cell turnover for brighter, firmer skin.
2) Use a purifying mask once a week. Ten minutes before bed will do wonders to prevent blackheads and unclog pores. The good news for you is that your tube of Deep Dive® also doubles as a mask. The process is remarkably simple. After cleansing, apply a nickel-size amount to your face using a circular motion; allow it to dry for at least ten minutes; rinse. The mask works to remove the pore-clogging oil and dead skin cells that a normal cleansing just won’t reach.
3) Moisturize to prevent oily buildup. In one of life’s beautiful twists, the work you do to remove oily buildup in the first place can cause your body to produce more of it. After a deep cleansing, the antioxidants in Clean Break™ Oil-Free Moisturizer nourish and protect the skin while Niacinamide improves skin’s elasticity and texture to help even out skin tone. More importantly, this oil-free moisturizer provides a protective barrier to your skin that can help obviate the need for your body to produce more oil.
Stick to this regimen throughout the summer months to keep your oily skin in check, but your skin will benefit overall in terms of appearing smoother and firmer. And as the seasons change, feel free to adapt your regimen to your skin’s needs. Feel like you can do more with less? Adjust accordingly.
