THE BENEFITS OF PERFECTING YOUR LATHER

October 10, 2014 by Jack

Achieving the perfect lather is not unlike hearing the swish of the ball through the net or sinking your putt on the first try. It takes just the right amount of finesse. Too dry, and your razor drags uncomfortably. Too wet, and you miss out on the moisturizing qualities of your shaving cream of choice. Just right, and your razor glides effortlessly over skin without discomfort. (There are even exhaustive tutorials on how to nail it.)

Fortunately, you can get the same close shave without heading to the barbershop or a PhD in shaving studies. Armed with the right tools, you can get a squeaky clean (and enjoyable) shave while standing at your own sink.

First, you want to prep your skin using warm water and an exfoliating scrub such as our Face Buff Energizing Scrub to loosen the whiskers and remove dead skin cells for less irritation.

To get a perfect lather that's neither too dry nor too wet, we recommend the load/hydrate technique.
  • Wet the brush thoroughly with warm water.
  • Put a dime-sized amount of shaving cream on the brush.
  • Start with the lather dry and slowly add water to your brush until you achieve the right consistency.
  • Use a circular motion to lather up from ear to ear.

You have hit the sweet spot when the lather has smooth and creamy consistency and can maintain its texture throughout your shave. If you want a quality lather, our Supreme Cream Triple Cushion Shave Lather allows the razor to glide close to the skin while offering skin-buffering protection, and our Double Edge Safety Razor provides precision with less irritation.

After completing the steps above, spread on some alcohol-free Post Shave Cooling Gel and your face is sure to feel as smooth as a baby’s bottom. It’s worth the effort to treat yourself to a thoughtful and fully lathered shave. You’ll be ready to conquer the day—and who knows what else.
