THE SIMPLE RULES FOR COMBATING OILY SKIN

August 18, 2014 by Jack

Feel like your forehead is shining like a chrome bumper? The good news is 1) you're not alone and 2) oily skin is not as bad as you think. Slightly oily skin helps reduce the signs of aging, as the oil keeps your skin from drying out and getting wrinkled. That being said, the right skincare approach will give your face a balanced, youthful appearance without looking like you’re in the throes of puberty.

Don’t over scrub it.
Though it may seem counterintuitive, don’t go overboard trying to wash your face too many times a day. This can dry your face out and fool your skin into thinking it needs to produce more oil. Along the same vein, don’t use the cheap grocery store bar soap on your face. It can strip away oils, dry out your skin and make it think it needs to up oil production.

Stick with a plan.
Your basic daily routine should be:

Cleanse and exfoliate: Start with a daily facial cleanser such as our Deep Dive Glycolic Facial Cleanser, a clay-based cleanser that washes away dead skin cells and pore-clogging oil and buildup. For deep cleaning, this two-in-one cleanser doubles as a purifying mask when left on dry skin.

Moisturize: Though your skin is oily, it still needs moisture. Our Double-Duty Face Moisturizer SPF 20 provides all-day hydration without the oiliness or heaviness of most moisturizers.

Stop shine: For a shine-free complexion that lasts, use our All Day Oil-Control Lotion. Simply pat this quick-penetrating lotion on and allow the powerful micro-absorbers to soak up excess facial oil, reduce sebum production and minimize the appearance of pores.

Treat: Inspect and treat acne and other bumps using our Bump Fix

Pimple Popper, M.D.
If those tricky little blemishes appear and you just don’t have the patience to let them die out on their own, perform an “extraction” after a hot shower—the warm water will bring impurities to the surface, leading to a softer, less painful popping experience. Stick to this regimen and have a face that more than a mother could love.
