DAILY HABITS TO PREVENT AGING & SUN DAMAGE

August 1, 2014 by Jack

The sun sustains life on this planet, and we’re all grateful for that, but it also takes a toll on your skin. It dries it out, speeds up aging and increases your risk of skin cancer. We’ve talked about it before, and we’ll probably talk about it again because it’s that important. With summer upon us and beaches, lakes, pools, backyard barbecues and island getaways all calling, chances are, you’re going to get burned without a solid game plan. So let’s talk about a few helpful habits you can start this summer to slow down aging and lower your cancer risk.

  Wear Sunscreen, Every Day
You wash your face, right? Finish off with a facial moisturizer that contains sunscreen. Jack Black's Double Duty Face Moisturizer with SPF 20, which won the Men’s Health Award for Best Facial Moisturizer, offers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection to shield skin from premature aging due to sun exposure. And don't forget your lips! Despite being exposed to large amounts of UV light, the lips are often overlooked. Our Intense Therapy Lip Balm has an SPF of 25 to provide superior protection against sunburn. If you’re going to be outside for any extended period of time (or dermatologists might say any time at all), use our Sun Guard, which has an SPF of 45. Keep a tube in your car, your golf bag, your desk at work—any place that might be the last stop before setting out for a sun-filled activity.

Wear Sunglasses with UV Protection
This isn’t the time for style over substance. If the sunglasses aren’t blocking UV rays, they’re not protecting your eyes. Over the long term, you’re risking severe damage, including cancer and vision deterioration. Look for UV 400 or 100 percent UVA/UVB protection.

Wear Clothes that Cover Your Skin Nothing about a farmer’s tan is sexy, so why not just wear lightweight long-sleeves? Keep a hat handy. Simple things. Ninety percent of skin cancers are found on parts of the body that get the most sun exposure, so cutting back the amount of time your face sees the light is only going to help. Having a healthy lifestyle is about creating healthy habits. Make sure protecting yourself from too much sun is the rule, not the exception. Your future self will thank you.
