DON'T SWEAT IT

July 15, 2014 by Jack

Whether sitting in front of you laptop, struggling through an intense midday workout or presenting a million-dollar deal to a client, your body produces heat all day long. Sweat is the natural way your body regulates your body temperature (read: It’s a good thing!). But it also has some unfortunate byproducts: pit stains, offensive body odor, slimy palms. Before you go all scorched earth on your pituitary system, though, there are benefits from sweating beyond just keeping you cool, including:

Cleaner skin: Sweating opens up pores, clearing out dirt and oil.

Eases pain: Some theorize that exercise stimulates neurochemical pathways in the brain, resulting in the production of endorphins.

Hangover cure: Sweating rids your body of toxins such as alcohol, cholesterol and salt.

Improves mood: Remember those endorphins? They come in handy here, too.

Prevents infections: Perspiration contains a naturally occurring antimicrobial peptide called dermcidin, which helps in preventing infections.

Where the stink comes from.
Sweat is produced from two glands. The eccrine glands trigger perspiration made of only water and salt to keep our core temperature regulated. The second gland, the apocrine gland, releases fat and protein, which react with bacteria to create that smell. The type of smell ranges from genetics to what you put into your body. One of the best ways to manage body odor, pleasant or otherwise, is our Cool CTRL Natural Deodorant. This aluminum-free formula contains clinically tested, time-released odor blockers. Plus, the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal ingredients alleviate sweat stench at its source. Or you could opt for Pit Boss Antiperspirant & Deodorant, which staves off odor and wetness in one fell swipe.

 The power of re-hydration.
Hydration is key to replacing fluids lost through sweat. As we’ve covered, sweating is actually good for your skin, however, leaving skin with dried-on sweat for too long can lead to conditions such as miliaria, also known as heat rash, in which the eccrine glands get blocked, resulting in bumps and skin discoloration. Make sure to scrub those pores while they are most susceptible using our Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser, which contains a toning element that won’t dry out your skin. Even if diet and genetics aren’t in your olfactory favor, you can mitigate the damage with a few simple products, plenty of water and a little perspective.
