This is How to Manage Oily Skin

Some guys hit the genetic jackpot and were #blessed with the Goldilocks of skin types: not too dry, not too oily, not a pimple in sight. At the other end of the spectrum are the guys whose natural glow transforms into greasy grime in a hot minute. Despite a line of products and regimens aimed at each skin type, many guys are unaware what’s best for them—especially those with oily skin. We want to fix that.

How do I know if I have oily skin? It’s pretty simple, really. First, wash your face with warm water and a gentle cleanser; then pat it dry and wait about an hour or so. (Don’t apply any products to—and avoid touching—your face during this time). After some time has gone by, dab your face with a tissue in and around the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin). If your tissue stays dry, you have normal or dry skin. If your tissue picks up oil, well, you have oily skin.

Why do I need a moisturizer?  You'd apply moisturizer to your face for the same reason you'd give your car a good wax treatment. Applying Clean Break™Oil-Free Moisturizer helps protect your skin from environmental elements, prevents it from drying out, and improves the overall appearance of your complexion.

Why am I adding moisture to skin that’s already oily? Ironically enough, the work you do to remove oil in the first place can cause your body to produce more of it. After a deep cleansing, the antioxidants in Clean Break™ nourish and protect the skin while Niacinamide improves skin’s elasticity and texture and helps even out skin tone. Even more, your moisturizer provides a protective barrier to your skin that can help obviate the need for your body to produce more oil.

Got it. What do I do now? There’s no getting around it: you must start a routine and stick to it. Seriously. Wash your face in the morning and again before you go to sleep at night using a gentle, but effective cleanser and exfoliant like Deep Dive™ Glycolic Facial Cleanser and apply a light, oil-free moisturizer like Clean Break™ immediately afterward. (If it’s morning and you plan on going outside, be sure to apply a light layer of sunscreen beforehand). Apply our All Day Oil-Control Lotion to your T-zone to control oil breakthrough and shine throughout the day.

And for an ounce of prevention, keep these tips in mind:

  • Wash your pillowcases weekly.
  • Wipe down phone screens to rid them of harmful bacteria.
  • If you wear a cap frequently, try to give your forehead a break every once in awhile.
  • Avoid touching your face as much as you can.

We get that change is hard, but oily skin is not something to live with. Follow the steps suggested here to better manage and protect your skin. Believe it or not: taking steps to look better will invariably make you feel better.
